Atmospheric Gothic Metal Tiamat is a band from Taby, Stockholm, Sweden, founded in 1988.
Originally Tiamat Death Metal music plays under the name "Treblinka". The band finally disbanded in 1989. Johan Edlund (vocals, guitar, keyboards), change the name of the band became "Tiamat". (Tiamat is a goddess in Babylonian and Sumerian mythology)
Tiamat combine subgenres like Death Metal, Black Metal, Progressive Metal, Doom Metal, Gothic Metal, Symphonic Metal and Rock Experimental / Avant-garde rock with ethnic elements. Theme of the Sumerian Tiamat lyrics, poems of love, drugs, and religion.

German guitarist, Waldemar Sorychta, contributed a lot in this band's albums and on some tours with Moonspell Tiamat, Rotting Christ, Lacuna Coil and Samael.
Tiamat tour of the United States along with Black Sabbath and Motörhead. Tiamat also appeared at major festivals such as Dynamo Open Air and Wacken Open Air.
