Bathory is a Heavy Metal / Black Metal / Viking Metal / Thrash Metal band from Stockholm, Sweden, formed by Quorthon in 1983. Originally the band was named Nosferatu, then Natas, Mephisto, Elizabeth Bathory, Countess Bathory and finally Bathory.

Bathory is considered the pioneer of Black Metal and Viking Metal.

Bathory influenced by Venom, Black Sabbath, Motörhead, Manowar, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Punk Rock.

Bathory affect various bands such as Metallica, Marilyn Manson, Cradle of Filth, Black Crucifixion, Beherit, and Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins.

In June 2004, Quorthon was found dead at his home, due to heart failure.
